SMS Law College Varanasi in association with District Legal Services Authority organized Legal Awareness Progamme on 12th November 2024 in Lieu of Legal Awareness Week which is celebrated from 9th November to 14th November every year.

 We were highly grateful to have among us Esteemed Chief Guest, Shri Vijay Kumar Vishwakarma Sir , Additional District and Session Judge and Secretary ( District Legal Services Authority). 

The session began with the Welcome address by Dr.Prabhat Kumar Srivastava Sir, Principal SMS Law College Varanasi. The session  provided valuable insights into the Historical Overview of the Development of Legal Services Authority Act which came into force in the year 1987. This act is an Statute Of Indian Parliament to enforce the Provision under Article 39-A of Indian Constitution which puts an obligation on Indian state to provide free Legal Aid for all citizens. 

 The primary Goan and objective of Legal Services Authority Act is to provide Free Legal Services to weaker sections of society and to organise  Lok Adalats for amicable settlement of Disputes .

 National Legal Services Day was started on 9 November in 1995 by Supreme Court of India to promote and support Legal Aid to weaker sections of society.

The Chief Guest of the Day , Shri Vijay Kumar Vishwakarma threw light on the need and importance of providing the service of Free Legal Aid and to make people aware of their rights. 

We had the presence of all Faculty Members of SMS Law College Varanasi  Dr Ashraya Dubey Assistant Professor, Dr.Upasana Wali Assistant Professor, Dr. Sangeeta Singh Assistant Professor and Mr.Avinash Roy Assistant Professor.
