SMS law college organised a Two days National Workshop on Moot Court: Essentials and Significance held on 19th and 20th July 2024 in association with District Legal Services Authority.
The day one of the workshop was subdivided into an inaugural session and technical session. The session was coordinated by Dr.Upasana Wali, Assistant Professor , SMS law college Varanasi.The Welcome Address was given by Dr.Prabhat Kumar Srivastava ,Principal of SMS Law College where the purpose of organising the workshop was clearly defined enriching students the skills for participating in the proceedings of court law.
We had the presence of Esteemed Dignitaries in the inaugural session
1.Kausar Raza Faridi as Special Guest and Resource Person. He pointed on the purpose of Moot Court , essentials On mooting , coordination and strategy .
2) We had the presence of Special Guest Dr.Shilpi Gupta Maam , Assistant Professor , MGKVP Varanasi. She began by explaining the historical background of Moot Court and enlisted the benefits of mooting like improving personality development , developing advocacy skills and boosting confidence .
3) We had the presence of Dr.Gopal Krishna Sharma Assistant Professor, Faculty of Law BHUas Guest of Honour . He highlighted the benefits of moot court to enhance clinical legal education and traced the origin of Moot in Scandinavian word which means to debate or to assemble.He further pointed to the techniques to draft and plead in court of law.
4) The inaugural session was also saw the presence of Chief Guest Shri Vijay Kumar Vishwakarma , Additional District and Session Judge .Sir rightly pointed out that we need practical training in the field of Law.We need to know how to apply procedures in real life and this is what moot court teaches

The technical session of day one was Chaired by our Resource Persons Shri Kausar Raza Faridi , Advocate on Record , Supreme court of India and Dr.Gopal Krishna Sharma , Assistant Professor Faculty of Law BHU. The session elaborated about the functioning of the court and learning the basics of communication with the client. The importance of preparing the memorial and giving weightage to sequencing .The three important things for Moot Court are Research, Writing and Argument.

The second day of the workshop was coordinated by Mr.Ankit Rai Sir, Assistant Professor SMS Law College Varanasi. The session had the presence of Kausar Raza Faridi as Resource Person .He explained functions of Supreme Court and writs issued by Supreme court.The second esteemed guest was Dr.Dolly Singh , Assistant Professor, Faculty of Law BHU.She explained the benefits of moot court which helps in enhancing advocacy , legal research and writing skills.Further on she also talked about the process which involves problem framing.The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr.Upasana Wali, Assistant Professor SMS Law College Varanasi.
The valedictory session had the presence of eminent Dignitaries.We were honoured to have among us Advocate Arun Kumar Tripathi Sir,Former Chairman and member State Bar Council UP. He highlighted the importance of reading and quoted that knowledge is power .He also mentioned that law is as wide as life and further on went on elaborating that giving justice is the most difficult and that only a lawyer can do.
The valedictory session witnessed the presence of Chief Guest Prof( Dr.) Rajneesh Patel , Faculty of Law BHU.He highlighted the importance of applied law and history of Moot Court in India. The esteemed guest explained in detail the difference between barrister, solicitor and advocate . Further on sir also elaborated the qualities that an advocate must focus on.
