SMS Law College Varanasi Celebrated World Environment Day on 5th June, 2025

SMS Law College Varanasi Celebrated World Environment Day on 5th June . On this Occasion One Day Workshop was organised in the College on the Topic " Role of Judiciary in Environmental Protection.

We had the honour to have among us Shri Alok Kumar , Additional District and Session Judge, Secretary ( District Legal Services Authority ) Varanasi

The programme Proceedings began with the Welcome Address by Principal SMS Law College Varanasi, Dr Prabhat Kumar Srivastava Sir .He spoke in detail about the origin and development of World Environment Day. The Inaugural session gave in-depth details into Judicial Response towards Environmental Protection.The core words which would help mitigate environmental degradation like Sustainable Development, Polluter Pays Principle were introduced to the students.

Our Special Chief Guest  Shri Alok Kumar , Additional District and Session Judge, Secretary ( District Legal Services Authority) Varanasi gave thoughtful insights into the role of Judiciary in Environmental Protection. He further stressed that Development at the Cost of Environment will have long term consequences  damaging the ecological balance of the Earth. Anthropogenic interference has further damaged the environment globally .The path of sustainable development is a way to protect future generations .Lastly our esteemed Chief Guest also drew attention towards how Judiciary as a Branch of Government has the potential to protect Environment on Inclusive Approach.

Further the students took an Oath called " Sankalp" which was coordinated by Shri S.P.Vishwakarma , Para Legal Volunteer , DLSA . The Session was coordinated by Dr.Upasana Wali , Assistant Professor SMS Law College Varanasi and Vote of Thanks was meticulously crafted by Dr.Ashraya Dubey Mam , Assistant Professor SMS Law College Varanasi.

We had the esteemed Presence of Registrar SMS Varanasi , Shri Sanjay Gupta Sir. All faculty members of SMS Law College graced the occasion Dr.Sangeeta Singh , Mr .Ankit Rai and Mr.Avinash Roy .

The programme Proceedings further ended by the Plantation Drive which was done in the campus to make people aware of the Collective Responsibility in Protecting the Planet.  

A Rally was organised were students participated by raising slogans on diverse issues and  concerns which impact Environment.
